Mercury Turns Direct in Aries May 3 until May 15 – Communication and Intellect
What did you work on during the retrograde? Did you have any big issues with communication, siblings, ghosts from the past, technology, travel plans, or transportation? If so, now is the time to begin implementing solutions, clear up misunderstandings, buy new devices, move forward with negotiations and contracts, or make tweaks and shifts to the things you put in place over the past few weeks. Remember the retrograde hangover lasts until May 20th, so have a coffee and take your time as you get up, reverse direction, and step back out intellectually.

When Mercury is in Aries communications and thought processes are active, assertive, and more direct, and conversations are quick and to the point. You don’t have time for delays, roadblocks, or speed bumps! The mind wants a mental challenge but also wants to get things thought through as quickly as possible, and if it is to your advantage, you streamline, skip steps, skim, and take shortcuts along the way.  Just be careful not to miss important details as you race to the finish line.

Meetings should be held in environments that allow participants to move around – no desks or tables – and consider including some kind of physical activity as part of the program.  The energy is motivating and fun, so inspire others with your passion, leadership, and pioneering spirit. Agendas should be as short as possible and focus on visioning, initiating, and starting new projects. Discussions are loud, energetic, and enthusiastic, and there may be a tendency for everyone to be personally attached to their own ideas, but compromise can be reached by describing what’s in it for them. Decisions are made quickly and may not consider all the minutiae involved, so get the head nod and be willing to figure out how to execute when Mercury moves in to Taurus later in the month and is much better at manifesting.

I see a bad moon a-rising
I see trouble on the way
I see earthquakes and lightnin’
I see bad times today
Don’t go ’round tonight
It’s bound to take your life
There’s a bad moon on the rise
I hear hurricanes a-blowing
I know the end is coming soon
I fear rivers over flowing
I hear the voice of rage and ruin
Don’t go ’round tonight
It’s bound to take your life
There’s a bad moon on the rise
I hope you got your things together
I hope you are quit prepared to die
Look’s like we’re in for nasty weather
One eye is taken for an eye
Oh don’t go ’round tonight
It’s bound to take your life
There’s a bad moon on the rise
There’s a bad moon on the rise
-John Fogerty
Scorpio Rising

Full Moon in Scorpio on May 10 – Manifest
This song was written by John Fogerty and performed by Creedence Clearwater Revival exactly 48 years ago in April of 1969, and the Scorpio Full Moon occurred on May 2nd that year. John said the song is about “the apocalypse that was going to be visited upon us.”  It was inspired by the classic movie, the Devil and Daniel Webster, which is about a man, down on his luck, who meets and sells his soul to the devil.  Even though he wasn’t writing about the world actually ending, these were certainly tumultuous times, and he was using the weather as a metaphor to describe the chaos in the collective environment.

There are a lot of similarities in the astrology then and now as well as in the events that were occurring compared to what is presently happening…. Climate change, danger on the streets at night, voices of rage protesting, water issues, feeling like society is being ruined, carrying out the Oklahoma Death Sentences, NASTY weather, etc.

During the release of the song and the Full Moon in Scorpio in 1969, Jupiter was retrograde and in a conjunction with Pluto, which happens every 12 years and is the beginning of a new Jupiter/Pluto cycle.  Once Jupiter went direct again, he headed toward another big conjunction with Uranus in July of that year.  We were in the very early years of the new Uranus/Pluto cycle as well, which happens every 84 years and was the signature aspect of the 60’s, a time of civil unrest that pushed us to confront and deal with civil rights issues. Unfortunately, this work is still not complete, and we are at a stressful point between these two planets as we continue the journey toward equality and freedom for all beings on the planet.

In current astrology, Jupiter and Pluto are in a closing square aspect, which is ending a cycle and often brings issues to the point of crisis and tests us before the story ends. Pluto is the planet of the establishment, leadership and those who are in control and have power, and right now in Capricorn, he wants to do things the way they have traditionally always been done, whether it is working or not. Jupiter represents the philosophical, legal, and higher beliefs that are in conflict with the Plutonian energy, and he wants to use the wisdom that was gained during the cycle thus far to push us even further forward.  Legal battles, conflicting ideology, cultural differences, religion, capitalist vs socialist viewpoints are all part of the process.  Both Planets are currently retrograde, so there is a stand off or things regress until June, when Jupiter will move forward again and have the upper hand until the end of Sept.

Jupiter is also currently in opposition to Uranus, and Uranus epitomizes the phrase “the times they are a-changin’. Jupiter is making those changes HUGE, visible, and helping Uranus achieve the goal by challenging the status quo.  Many of us are feeling this in our relationships, because Jupiter is in Libra, which brings in the partnering factor, and the opposition energy has us vacillating between engaging in the dialogue and trying to get along, and then running away to do your own thing or rebelling/protesting in some way.

John Fogerty has a Jupiter and Uranus in a square aspect in his chart, so both his personal astrology and the song he wrote resonate and vibrate with this type of energy throughout his life.  He recently sang his song on the hit show “The Voice,” which often happens when the chart gets woken up in this way, because the actual celebrity is a sign of the times.

If we take a look at some of the major events that happened in 1969 we can see some of this energy playing out. Remember, Pluto = power, control, transformational change.  Jupiter = other cultures and countries, beneficial events or making less than beneficial events even worse, long-distance travel, higher education, religion.  Uranus = change, rebellion, space exploration, unexpected events.

And that is just half of the year…. protests, terrorists, democratic issues, communists, environmental concerns, chemical weapons, new presidents and Supreme Court appointments, and changes to the establishment such as transportation and the media.  We haven’t even gotten to the events later that year such as the first man to walk on the moon, Chappaquiddike, or Life Magazine running a cover story, “Marijuanna:  At least 12 Million Americans Have Now Tried It.  Are the penalties too severe? Should it be legalized?”  Sound familiar?

All this to say that even when we think the times are worse than they have ever been, they are very similar to what was happening 48 years ago!  The big difference is in the way we experience them.  We are bombarded with news all day long through a multitude of devices and can watch in such an experiential way that we feel it in our bodies as if it is actually happening to us rather than outside of ourselves.  We hear, see, and feel the earthquakes, lighting, hurricanes, feel the fear of the end coming soon, and have to force ourselves to refocus on the fact that everything will be ok in the end.

When we stay in the present moment and continue to do our own work internally, then we are part of creating and manifesting a new external reality both personally and collectively.  Manifesting through this co-creative process is what the Scorpio Full Moon is all about – we feel the fear and do it anyway.  It is emotionally intense, and it wants you to go deep into the psychology of your feelings to get at the root of the sensation, whether it originates in the past, in current situations, or in re-living a pattern of the past in a new way.

The Taurus Sun, your conscious self, shows you where you experience abundance, appreciate the good things in life, and have a solid footing and foundation.  The Scorpio Moon, your subconscious self, is where you seek to satisfy your desires and cravings.  Think about where you feel you have more than enough and everything you need, versus just the opposite, where you feel something is lacking, and you just want something more even if you don’t exactly know what it is.  It is the hole you can never quite fill.

The Scorpio part of your chart is not easily accessed, it has shadows, and it’s the place you don’t really want to go.  It is sex, drugs, and rock and roll, and some of us have the ability to control these impulses and some of us let it all hang out. You can use this Moon to powerfully transform yourself or anything in your life if you consciously shine a light on it and face the devil without selling your soul to him.

Two weeks ago on the New Moon in Taurus, you may have set intentions to fertilize and grow something new, manifest abundance, or push something along, and at this point in the cycle, you may have to tap into a deeper place within you to keep the momentum going. If there is drama, secrets, mystery, suspicion, power struggles, or turmoil anywhere in your life or related to your intentions, this is the area to bring into awareness, and the Scorpio energy will allow you to instinctively know how to handle it. Be totally silent to hear what you already know, and use intuition and fertile creativity to manifest the necessary changes.  Don’t be afraid of the dark, go all in, dig deep, and protect what is yours but release the past in order to create in the present with a clear, sharp, and strategic approach.  Be grateful for what you already have rather than attaching to what’s missing, which will serve as a magnetic force to bring more of what you want into your already abundant life.

The good news is there wasn’t an apocalypse in 1969 or any time since, John Fogerty is still with us, and if we wait long enough, “Jimmy quits, Jody gets married, and the summer of 69 becomes the best days of our lives.”

PS:  The chorus of John’s song was often misheard as “there’s a bathroom on the right.”  Scorpio rules bathrooms!

PSS:  Daniel Webster is one of Florida’s representatives in Washington.
